Calendar Of Events January 15 Mad Hatter's Tea Party - Tickets Here March 3 - 5:30 until Midnight |
Managing Director-Becky Breshears Don't miss our fund raiser at Shangri-La Tea Room and Cafe coming up on Sunday, January 15 from 2-4pm. Tickets are just $25 - enjoy a light plate of great food and some special brewed tea just for the party. There will be some door prize give-aways along with a few auction items to bid on. Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen and the White Queen will be on hand. Costuming is encouraged...or just come dressed for tea. It's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying some friends and watching a preview of our Winter Performance! Seating is limited so please purchase your tickets in advance. Thursday night is Preview Night - and our now famous Pay What You Can Afford Night ($5 minimum per person) - It's certainly a great way to introduce someone new to contemporary dance. A special perk of the evening is the artistic directors introduce each piece and say a little about its creation. You enjoy a great preview show and learn a little about the dances too. Opening Night is always exciting. The show begins at 8pm on Friday evening, January 27 with another performance Saturday evening at 8pm. There is no-host beer and wine service in the lobby each of those evenings. Join us a half hour before the show for some great company. Directors and Board Members are on hand to welcome you. On Saturday evening, you are invited to join us for our Post-performance event at Solid Bar and Grill in BoDo. The dancers, directors and board members will be there for a social hour immediately following the Saturday evening performance. Light appetizers are provided by Solid, with no-host beverages. Please stop in and meet the dancers and congratulate them on a fine performance. The performance closes on Sunday with a 2pm Matinee. As always, there will be beverages with cookies and sweets for sale in the lobby. Don't forget to grab a t-shirt or hoodie to wear around town to show your support for IDT. Our Gala is right around the corner and we need your help. Buy our tickets and join us for a stellar event. The theme is 1940's Jazz - costuming is encouraged but always optional. Our gala features both live and silent auctions, buffet dinner, nohost bar, our celebrity dance competition - and entertainment by the Paul Tillotson Trio. Invite your friends to join you for a memorable evening and help to support IDT as we move ahead into the future. We recently announced the opening of our First Annual Choreography Competition. We are really excited about this project. The project involves choreograpers from around the country submitting video of their work. We will review all the great work and choose something that we like to present on IDT dancers next season. In keeping with our mission to bring you the finest dance possible, and to continue to present new work, we are looking forward to being able to present an even greater variety of work for you. Watch for more details as the competition begins to heat up! Happy New Year. I hope you all have a great 2012. See you at the show! Development Director-Jeffrey Gabica Happy New Year Everyone! Artistic News - Carl Rowe and Marla Hansen I will have a new dance on the Winter Concert program this January entitled "How Things Are". The idea for this dance came from my experience of reading too much information on the internet for my own good. News, blogs, articles, and mass emailings from relatives show up on my computer and I pay too much attention to way too much of it. I finally decided that the only way to deal with this was to make a dance about it. The dance will have several short sections that each express a particular impression or thought that I have about the times we are presently sharing. Of course, I can't do it all, because what the internet shows us is that the world is full of all sorts of emotions and opinions and a lot of strife and stress. I will select what seem to be the larger themes and make a dance loosely based on that theme. Loosely is the key, since I don't want to get too literal but rather want to create something that sparks some of your own thoughts. I look forward to sharing this new dance with you in January.
And Our Winter Performance is just around the corner. We have a great show planned for you. Please invite your friends to join you for an evening performance and help spread the word about Idaho Dance Theatre.
