Calendar Of Events March 3 - 5:30 until Midnight Dancing Thru the Decades - A Gala Affair
|
Managing Director-Becky Breshears Our Gala is right around the corner (March 3) and we need your help. Buy your tickets and join us for a stellar event. The theme is 1940's Jazz - costuming is encouraged but always optional. Our gala features both live and silent auctions,on-line auction, buffet dinner, nohost bar, our celebrity dance competition - and entertainment by the Paul Tillotson Trio. Invite your friends to join you for a memorable evening and help to support IDT as we move ahead into the future. February is a busy month for the company. Rehearsals take place for our now famous Celebrity Dance Competition. With 7 local celebrities, it will be a night to remember. The Gala Committee - of which I am a part has mounted a last minute challenge to the Celebrities....So the competition will be fierce. Since our Gala theme is 1940's Jazz -all of the routines will be Broadway Jazz Routines - now that's something you don't want to miss! Our defending champions will return from last year along with 5 new celebrities. They are paired into smaller groups and dance with 1-2 of our company dancers in a fabulous dance choreographed by none other than our own Gonzalo Valdez. The prize is the coveted trophy that resides at Heirloom Dance Studios all year long! Join us for a really fun evening...and donate to a very worthy cause too! Gala tickets are avaiable on the website and are going quickly. This may likely sell out - so buy your seats early. We have a full schedule of school assemblies this month. Our school show is an important part of our mission. Done assembly style for larger groups, our goal is to inspire young people to support live performing arts and hopefully become art patrons of the future. We can't hope to teach each of them to dance, but we hope that they will learn to enjoy dance for themselves as well as to appreciate the dance that others do. Body movement has been around as long as the world has existed - everyone moves to the beat. It's important to just enjoy the movement, whether as a participant or a spectator. We hope to instill this appreciation in the young people that we are privileged to perform for. Many times, students come up to our dancers years later and remember them from a performance at their elementary school. The impact is amazing! There are clips of the show on our Youtube channel if you would like to see a little of what we do. IDT unveiled our new "New Visions Choreography Competition" at the beginning of January. We are holding competition to select a work to present at the show next January. One talented choreograper will be the winner and will be invited to set their piece on our company to perform for the Winter Show 2013. As part of our mission to bring you the very best contemporary dance performance, we are expanding our reach and look forward to this great opportunity to bring some cutting edge, new work to our stage. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you in February or March and tell you more about our upcoming plans for the company. If you would like to help us, I would love to meet with you and see how we can work together to help IDT become the full-time company we have decided to become. Have a Happy Valentines Day - and remember that I like dark chocolate the best and it's never too late to bring me some! Have a great month...and please buy your gala tickets today! Becky Development Director-Jeffrey Gabica Happy New Year Everyone!
