Innovative, provocative, stunning SPRINGShow
A special 45 minute interactive assembly program focused on dance/live arts appreciation is created each year for our elementary school outreach program "Leaps and Bounds". The program is written specifically to be performed in gyms and multi purpose rooms for the young students grades pre-K through 6th grade. Our outreach program is designed to inroduce kids of all ages to dance as well as live performance in a positive manner, in the hopes that they will gain an appreciation for dance and live performance as an art form. For many children, this may be their only exposure to a professional dance performance. The show is both interactive and entertaining. The kids are introduced to rhythms, partnering skills and a variety of other things. There is a life lesson in each show as well that teaches the kids that they too can live their dreams if they work hard.
Idaho Dance Theatre provides curriculum materials developed to assist the teacher in pre-performance and post performance discussions of dance in line with the Idaho guidelines for education. The show script is available both in English and Spanish upon request. All the curriculum is designed to help teachers fulfill the dance requirements of the No Child Left Behind legislation. Performed by company dancers this program is in its seventeenth year. It has been received by teachers and students with joy as the best of programs available in the state of Idaho. Schedule a performance at your school today. There are a limited number of performances available each year and they are scheduled on a first come basis. “Leaps and Bounds” educational outreach program was started by Idaho Dance Theatre in the mid 1990’s. The mission of the program is to help educate and engage children in the art of dance. The conviction of the company is that an early, positive introduction to dance will help students develop an appreciation for the arts as well as generate future patrons of art.
Outreach arts education is vital to the children of our region. It helps “level the educational playing field” across socio-economic boundaries by promoting creativity, goal-setting, self-confidence, and initiating a life-long appreciation for the Arts. Funding cuts to school programs have seriously impacted each school’s ability to bring these program to students, particularly in rural areas where the opportunity to experience professional quality performances is limited or non-existent. Non-profit organizations along with business/foundation partners are critical to continue bringing outreach arts education to our children.
